BLG DRC Summer School in Analytics for the public sector.

Venue: University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Colchester, CO4 3SQ

This one week training course, which is repeated over a two week period seeks to improve the data skills of analysts in the public sector. Focussing on five key areas, each subject compliments the other areas to give a rounded knowledge of using data analytics for the public sector. All of the subject areas will include practical sessions and computer workshops. Upon completion you will leave with improved data analytics skills that are immediately actionable. This course is aimed at analysts in the public sector, with 1 to 5 years’ experience in data or business analysis.

Modules:

  • Applied statistics and forecasting/Social network analysis
  • Spatial data linkage techniques (GIS) overview and foundation lecture
  • Agent based modelling overview
  • Applied research methods
  • Big Data, law and ethics

Following this training course, your team will be able to:

Apply modern statistical methods and social network analysis techniques to solve applied problems in the public services. Use agent based modelling and simulation based techniques for data analysis. Have a working knowledge of GIS data and how to apply spatial data linkage. Understand the methodologies behind the application of models and techniques to apply to real world challenges, and have a working understanding of the legal issues surrounding the use of data in analytics.
