In this webinar, Professor Andrew Lovett will discuss developments in open source GIS, in particular reviewing data and software sources. It will include a demonstration of the QGIS software, an increasingly popular GIS software solution.

Professor of Environmental Sciences at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Andrew’s academic background is in human geography. Since he moved to UEA in 1990 he has been involved in a range of projects concerned with applications of GIS, landscape visualisation software and statistical techniques. At present he has a particular interest in issues of future rural land-use, including research on renewable energy systems funded by the UK Energy Research Centre. He is also involved with the Social, Economic and Environmental Research (SEER) project into Multi-Objective Land Use Decision Making funded by the ESRC. He is also co-leader of the Wensum Demonstration Test Catchment project funded by Defra and the Environment Agency.

This webinar is a follow-on from the webinar that Professor Andrew Lovett ran earlier this year as an introduction to GIS; however you need not have attended that webinar if you would like to gain an understanding of Open Source GIS, and QGIS software as only a basic understanding of GIS concepts is required.
